We support people to do the extraordinary everyday.

The Luton Parent Carer Forum Community Interest Company (CIC) is an organisation which helps facilitate the voice of local parents/carers of children and young people aged 0-25 years, with special educational needs and/or disabilities. We are mainly funded by Department for Education, and supported by Contact a Family. Parent Carer Forums were established as part of the Children’s & Families Act 2014.

Luton Parent Carer Forum is a well informed, connected and empowered community of families of children with disabilities or additional needs, offering support to each other and working in partnership with service providers to create quality services that meet the needs of all parent carers and their children.

Members of Luton Parent Carer Forum work collectively for all families, respect each other’s views & make best use of one another’s skills & resources.

We provide opportunities for parent carers to influence the decisions that affect their families and to contribute to developing services that meet the needs of their families

How we do it?

• Enable parents/carers to make views known to service providers • Provide training for parent/carers • Parent representation
• Working with local organisations and charities • Surveys and consultations • Feedback on meetings we attend • Visit disability events
• Represent parent/carer views at decision making boards • Keep parents informed of SEND news nationally and locally
• Signpost parents to appropriate support and advice • Arrange information days • Attend meetings on behalf of the parent carers

We aim to empower families to have a voice in shaping local services for the future of their SEND children and young people.

We do this in two ways; firstly by working in co-production with the LA, Health and other Voluntary organisations that provide services, and secondly by running workshops / facilitating short courses (which are free to families of SEND children and young people) so that they feedback on their families experiences of using services.

We support parent carers to gain increased confidence when meeting with professionals in relation to their child/young person with SEND, and raising awareness of their rights under the Children and Families Act 2014.

We also support workforce development across key stakeholders such as Education, Health and Social care professionals, helping to evaluate the services used.

If you have a child or young person with SEND

(with or without a statement or EHC-Plan), aged 0-25 years and you live in Luton, and then why not join us?

and the benefits are we will keep you in the loop by sending you emails/newsletters and inviting you to attend our events.
